Drip, Drip, Drip

We are melting here.........

This is the heavy Colorado snow we all know and love......................snow, snow, snow............

Next day............sun.............melting.

And driving home tonight we were all treated to the Denver phenomenon known as the Denver Bronco Sunset.

As the bumper stickers say, "If God Doesn't Love the Broncos, Why Are Sunsets Orange and Blue?"

Halloween Snow In Colorado

I promised the ScooterGirl and The Marine some photos of the nationally renowned "Pre-Halloween Blizzard of '09."  You know it's bad  or people want you to think it's bad, when Sam Champion from Good Morning America is doing his weather report from Denver.

So here's the photographic evidence.

Note the poor Mr. Finch hanging on by his tiny feet to get a few seeds.  These Colorado birds are a hardy lot!!

I'm snug in my Denver office.  More Halloween snow fun to follow!!!

Grey Today, White Tomorrow

It's coming .................or so they are telling us.  As I write this.........the rain turned to snow about an hour ago.  They are talking snow through Thursday night..............but maybe the 50's by Saturday.  Which would be great for the trick or treaters.  It's fall in Colorado which means just about anything can happen with the weather.  4 inches to 24 inches.  Which will it be???

Updates to follow.

Oh, by the way................I love the snow.

Get in the Middle of The Middle

I love this show.

Wednesday night is the night for one of the most creative and funny new sitcoms I've seen in a long time.

I don't "do" sitcoms.  Not really.  Not since Seinfeld went off the air have I been a fan of a sitcom.  "Rules of Engagement"  was funny but not nearly as good.

Now this little show comes along, and while Modern Family is getting all the press, I think this show is the gem.  The basic plot is a Middle America Family.  Dad and Mom both work, three kids, two of which are teenagers and the youngest, "Brick" is the joy of the family.

From the show's website, they describe him.

"Brick is the youngest child of Frankie and Mike Heck. He's known both in the household and out for some, let's say odd behavior—his best friend is his backpack—but that doesn't mean that he can't pull it together when he needs to in order to help his mom make a sale. While he might be the strangest among his older brother Axl and his older sister Sue, we can't help but love the little guy, and we're sure you will too."

Anyway, I love this show.  It's funny, offbeat, quirky, and somehow............dead on. No doubt they will cancel it  So head over to and watch the episodes online while you still can. (while you still can).

For Conservative Movie Lovers

Please watch the video below.

If you click on the video twice and watch it over at YouTube you can see it in widescreen.

Now go read this post over at Big Hollywood (an amazing blog you should be reading everyday).

For Conservative Movie Lovers

This sounds like an amazing concept, and if its a good as the rest of the material over at Big Hollywood, it's sure to be fascinating.

What I love about Big Hollywood is the creativity, the range of topics and the concept that our pop culture is extremely important to welfare of our nation.  Pop culture, (movies, music, TV and the like) are both a reflection and an influence on our nation.

Ahhhhhhhhhh.....wander around Big Hollywood and see what I mean.

Pagan Christianity Review (Finally)

Well, well well. I realize everyone else read this book several years ago. Frank Viola doesn't just upset the apple cart, he chops the cart into kindling and makes applesauce with the apples. Being the closet Heretic I am, I have to say I think he's on the money. THERE! I said it.  This book reinforced so many issues I uncovered nearly 20 years ago, while on staff at a large church.  I finished it this week and handed it off to a dear friend to read just yesterday.  On to more of his books................

More Dancing With the Stars Maksim All the Time

So I haven't posted much about Dancing With The Stars lately.   But we never miss a moment here at Casa Rancho.  A house favorite this season is, surprisingly.......Kelly Osbourne.

But in the interest of "giving them what they want".  The most Googled search that brings people to my little blog these days are people looking for pictures of Maksim.

Since he's out of the running, here's few shots.

Hey!!! All you Maks fans.  Stick around and read the rest while you're here.

MAKSIM for everyone!!!!!

Best Movie Lines - Apollo 13

How many times have I watched Apollo 13?  Can't keep track.  I love this film.

I have an emotional connection to this movie for two important reasons.

One, my father was a rocket scientist.  Yep, he worked for Martin Marietta in the 60's.  Childhood was filled with early morning or late night viewings of each and everything they ever broadcast about the Mercury and Apollo missions.  It's in my DNA.  I'm still  obsessed.

Two, I met Jim Lovell.  In my industry I have the opportunity to meet many high profile people.  Politicians, Athletes, Musicians, and all the other Celebrity types.

Only once have I EVER asked to have my picture taken.........that happened when I met Jim Lovell.  I asked for, and posed for, a picture with Jim Lovell.  How often do you get to meet an Apollo astronaut?  (I think, as we speak, that photo is on my Dad's desk).  I was impressed to meet Jim Lovell.

So I watch Apollo 13 whenever I see it on the guide.  And yes, I always cry.

But my favorite line in the movie is when Marilyn Lovell is trying to distract her mother-in-law, while the TV reports are coming in about the precarious situation.  She introduces her to Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Marilyn Lovell: Blanche, Blanche, these nice young men are going to watch the television with you. This is Neil Armstrong, and this is Buzz... Aldrin.

Neil Armstrong: Hi.

Blanche Lovell: Are you boys in the space program too?

If that's not funny to you, go research the Space Program.

So many great things to be found online on this subject.

See what I found .................BBC's coverage.  Note the anchor with his finger's crossed.

Cold in Colorado

A day of winter in the middle of fall.  It's frozen out there.  No Colorado Rockies Baseball tonight.  Thought I'd get some shopping in today, but after a quick trip to Birdland to fill the feeder, I decided to stay inside today.

And yes, they are calling for 60's later this week.

Pepper Peeling Day

You know it's really fall at Casa Rancho when it's pepper peeling day.

Today was that day.

A bushel of fresh Anaheim peppers, grown up in Brighton got peeled and packed into freezer bags.

A bushel makes about 30 bags of 6-8 peppers a piece.

We saved out some for tonight's meal.

These will become Chile Rellenos.  I put a small slit near the stem, clean the seeds out, and fill with jack cheese cut in strips...............

If they split to much, I add toothpicks to hold them together.  Then I pop the pan in the freezer.  After a few hours, the are frozen solid and easier to handle.

After dipping in a egg bath, they go into the skillet.

Today was a great treat because The Husband whipped up a batch of pork green chili, with the last of the peppers from last year.

A little sour cream on top............Really good stuff.  We had a nice meal and fed the neighbors as well!

If you're coming to Casa Rancho..............let me know...........I'll whip you up a batch!

Channel 3 the "LOVE" channel whips out this little ditty...........................

I sing along really well.

Altitude 6200 Feet

A reader asked me in an email why my blog says "Random Thoughts From 6200 Feet."

Most people have heard Denver called the Mile High City which would put us at 5280 Feet.  And in fact there is a marker (or a few of them) at the State Capitol.

So why 6200 feet?  Well when the amazing, time wasting, Google Earth came out.............I was able to ascertain that good old Casa Rancho is actually a nearly full 1000 feet higher than downtown.  I assumed it was higher, but didn't know it was that much higher.  As you head south out of town you are gradually climbing up towards the Palmer Divide.

For you out-of-staters................knowing the elevation of wherever you are is a "Colorado Thing".  When you travel around the state you constantly hear people asking or referring to the elevation of their location.

There you go.

More useless info from your host.
