Slow Down Honda Drivers

Why is it that everyone that drives a Honda is in a big hurry?

80% (at least) of the time when someone cuts me off in traffic, changes lanes suddenly, or tailgates me, they're driving a Honda.

Paw Bender - A Great Idea

Out west here there’s a regional fast food chain called Good Times. They have quality burger, chicken sandwiches and a bevy of frozen custard. One of their custard creations is called the spoon bender, similar, I guess to a DQ blizzard………..only better.
I occasionally swing through for a chicken sandwich at lunch time, which I did yesterday, since it's close to my office, and I had Miss Bessy with me for her weekly day at the office.

As I pulled into the drive through I saw this sign at the speaker.

$1.00? One buck? I can spoil my dog with a frosty treat for a buck? I’m in!!  And the guy at the window said they’re selling like crazy.

I love, clever creative marketing, and I sent Good Times an email telling them so.

Here’s the cup.

Bessy, thinking she has the best owner in the world. A blurry picture, because she was going nuts.

Good Times made me and my Bessy happy.

Okay, Now I Get It

As in, now I get the "TwilightMania".

Whenever there is a book or movie series SO WIDELY ACCLAIMED, I instantly grow skeptical. I know, I know, but it’s in my nature to swim against the tide. So when all the buzz first started about Stephenie Meyer’s book, (the first one) I kept meaning to pick it up to read.

But I had a huge stack of books at home waiting to be read, so I decided to put it off. Before I got around to buying it, the second book was out, then the third, and I had still not jumped on the bandwagon. But the bandwagon was pretty full at that point so I decided maybe I didn’t want to get on at all.

Book four comes out, now I’m behind and decided it was too late to get caught up. Just about every other blog I read, written by a woman........ is enthralled, obsessed with the books, so I grow resistant.

Then comes the movie………..I have a niece who was at the first showing………….I’m less inclined………….it comes out on DVD eventually………….I watch it.

AND I REALLY DIDN’T LIKE IT. Didn’t HATE it, but didn’t like it very much. I certainly understood the appeal for teen age girls……….Robert Pattison is………….so ……….well he's ne sais quoi. The movie seemed to spend half the screen time with moody music playing and shots of Bella and Edward LOOKING at each other. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

So that’s where I decided it leave it.

Not my thing.

Not interested.

With the hype of the 3rd movie everywhere, everyday……………I grew weak and decided to give the first book a read.

Yep, it sucked me (no pun intended) right in.

Read it in two days.  Kindled New Moon.  Read it in two days.

Suddenly I had the urge to watch the movie again...............and lo and behold...........the movie is great.

Now that I've read the book.............(more on that later). So my personal Twilight Saga has commenced.  I've determined not to read Eclipse till I've seen New Moon.

Hello all you folks on the bandwagon...............can I catch a ride????

Tunesday - Sara Mclachlan

Seeing Sara on Dancing With The Stars last week reminded me how much I love her voice.

In the case of Sara, its the vocalisations that stand out........and the melody fits perfectly.  Hard to chose one.......... but here you go.

Tunesday - Five For Fighting

For me, there are many elements that make for a great song.  There is the beat, the style, the vocalisation and the lyrics.  When all those planets have music magic.  Those magic songs are few and far between.

There's no way for me to put those elements in order of importance, because it always depends on the song, but some elements rise to the top.  Lyrics are near the top of that list for me.  Gotta love a great lyric.

Five for Fighting is a group (but really a guy) whose lyrics make them stand out, despite the fact that the style and vocalisations are not my favorite.

This song for today is an example of lyrical magic.

If the style doesn't grab you, please read the lyrics first, then play the song.

This song speaks to the fact that our life is fleeting.  We look at the calendar and we are 15, we wake up the next day and we're 50.

I think our songwriter here picked years that were pivotal for him..............we can all chose our own years that stand out, or the years that were crossroads moments. I might have picked 17, and 23, and 29.  40 was big, and 50 knocked me over............100?  We can only hope.
I'm 15 for a moment

Caught in between 10 and 20

And I'm just dreaming

Counting the ways to where you are

I'm 22 for a moment

She feels better than ever

And we're on fire

Making our way back from Mars

15 there's still time for you

Time to buy and time to lose

15, there's never a wish better than this

When you only got 100 years to live

I'm 33 for a moment

Still the man, but you see I'm a they

A kid on the way

A family on my mind

I'm 45 for a moment

The sea is high

And I'm heading into a crisis

Chasing the years of my life

15 there's still time for you

Time to buy, Time to lose yourself

Within a morning star

15 I'm all right with you

15, there's never a wish better than this

When you only got 100 years to live

Half time goes by

Suddenly you're wise

Another blink of an eye

67 is gone

The sun is getting high

We're moving on...

I'm 99 for a moment

Dying for just another moment

And I'm just dreaming

Counting the ways to where you are

15 there's still time for you

22 I feel her too

33 you're on your way

Every day's a new day...

15 there's still time for you

Time to buy and time to choose

Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this

When you only got 100 years to live

Spring Has Sprung it really felt like spring.

All the plants and trees are well on their way.  I will have columbines soon.

Though The Husband was a little under the weather, there was patio sitting, and grilling, pinon wood fires and some washer games on the front sidewalk.  Still too chilly for sitting anywhere but in the sun.......we're almost there.

Speaking of LastFm

I really dig LastFm.

Similar to Pandora's box, but having tried both, I like LastFm for several reasons.  One, you can develop a library and then only play that list of songs if you want.

If you're already lost....................

LastFM is online free radio.  If you go there and it tells you you can't log on........sign up and get to it that way.  It's free online radio and you can pick an artist you like and listen online for that artist and then others that come at you...........from any computer you are on.  (as long as your connection is fast enough).

Why do it?  Maybe you have Itunes or you're YouTubing it???...........this is better.  You Tube videos can be lame and you don't always have your Ipod with you.  Anytime........ anywhere you can listen if you log on.  Make up a fake ChickVoice...............and you too can have free music. I have no LastFM friends and I need some............

Over time, when you click the heart icon, or ban songs from your list, LastFM learns what you like (really!) and plays music from people you've never heard of,  that make you stop in your tracks and say "wow, I gotta get that song".

If you're a blogger, you can add a LastFM widget to your blog, and let your readers know what you were listening to while you were pretending to work at your office. (Look for mine in my sidebar and find out how varied and cheesy my musical choices are).

Check them out............sign up today.................this is not a paid advertisement.

Springtime in the Rockies

Yes its Still Winter Spring here At Altitude.

Apparently, buying new, comfy patio furniture is the karmic equivalent of washing your car.

Still snowing around here and it's mid-May.  We've had a few decent days here and there but overall, spring has creeped in slowly, painfully slow, this year.

As much as I love the snow, I'm done with it for now.  They are calling for a warm up starting for tomorrow.  Maybe a warm weekend to come.

Did have some great bird sightings this last weekend, as we sat by the chiminea shivering under blankets.  Bluebirds buzzing around, and a quick flyby by a hummingbird.  One morning I heard a call I didn't recognize and looked out the bedroom window to see some Tree Swallows checking out one of the birdhouses.  That was a first time viewing and they are really striking the in the morning light.

Hoping that the recent snow has left the plants intact.  Tomorrow's thaw will tell.

Tunesday - The Bee Gees

Yes, not ashamed to admit that I'm a big Bee Gees fan.  Had the albums, saw them in concert, had a crush on Barry.  Their Main Course album is on the soundtrack of my high school years.........

Lots of great songs, many big hits.  Here's one of my favorites.

TV Show Update

There are a handful of TV shows I watch regularly.  Haven't blogged about any of them for a while.

So here's a recap.
  • Dancing with the Stars.  This season, for some reason, there's not really someone who I'm rooting for.  Last season I was pulling for Donnie Osmond and was thrilled that he won.  I think this season I still enjoy watching the dancing...........but don't really care who wins the competition.  Still watching, but lets get some more interesting competitors next season.  More Maks all the time!
  • Survivor - Heroes and Villains. Russell was clearly the best player on last season and deserved to win.  This season not so much.  I'm clearly rooting for Rupert............but I doubt he'll win.  Nice guys always finish last, right?
  • The Closer.  Always miss it.  Best show on TV.  Back in June I hear.  As Brenda Lee would say..."Thank you so much."
  • Lost.  Okay so they killed off a bunch of people this week. Only a few left.  Still don't know if time split.............if it did they all end up meeting each other anyway.  Kind of sounds like Calvinism to me. So we know Smoke Monster is evil and is only held in check by a good person holding him on the island.  To sum things up............I'm still Lost.  I fear I will have to watch the whole thing from the beginning, just to understand.  This time I will make The Husband watch with me.

Tunesday - Michael Buble

It occurred to me while listening to this song with a coworker on the way to a meeting the other day, why I like it SO MUCH.

This song could have been on the radio in the 70's.  It's so similar to much of the Pop songs in the seventies.  It's happy, catchy, and as Tennessippi Dave would say, "hooky".  It makes you happy to hear it.

So happy Tunesday.
