Tunesday - Five For Fighting

For me, there are many elements that make for a great song.  There is the beat, the style, the vocalisation and the lyrics.  When all those planets align.............you have music magic.  Those magic songs are few and far between.

There's no way for me to put those elements in order of importance, because it always depends on the song, but some elements rise to the top.  Lyrics are near the top of that list for me.  Gotta love a great lyric.

Five for Fighting is a group (but really a guy) whose lyrics make them stand out, despite the fact that the style and vocalisations are not my favorite.

This song for today is an example of lyrical magic.

This song speaks to the fact that our life is fleeting.  We look at the calendar and we are 15, we wake up the next day and we're 50.

I think our songwriter here picked years that were pivotal for him..............we can all chose our own years that stand out, or the years that were crossroads moments. I might have picked 17, and 23, and 29.  40 was big, and 50 knocked me over............100?  We can only hope.
